How to play Fortnite on a split screen with PlayStation?
- Step 1 : You absolutely need 2 controllers and 2 accounts : the primary account and the secondary PlayStation Network account registered on the system. To be perfectly clear, each controller is linked to a separate account.
- Step 2 : Once on your main account, head to the lobby where you choose to create either a duo or a squad: you have no choice, only these two modes are allowed!
- Step 3 : Once the lobby is set up, turn on the second controller . The system will ask you the following question: who is using this controller?
you click on the secondary Play Station Network account .

- Step 4 : Once you've selected it, you should see a small list of options appear in the bottom right corner of the screen. You'll be prompted to press and hold the X button on your controller to enter as player number 2. This will restart Fortnite and ask you to link an account.
- Step 5 : Note, if your player 2 has a personal Fortnite account, they enter the code that appears on the screen when opening the Epic activation page and log into their account.
To avoid navigation difficulties on the Playstation, it is preferable for the second player to complete this via a phone or tablet.
- Step 6 : Note that if your friend, the 2nd player, does not have a Fortnite account, you will need to create one on Epic , to link to your console.
Think carefully about the following, it could save you from having to do this again in the future: you can definitely create a new Fortnite account on Epic and this will save you from having to link another account to your console each time.
This way, any friend who comes to your house will be able to log in directly with your guest account.
- Step 7 : You're almost there, just two more small steps!
The second player can become the game leader and take control by holding down the X button in the lobby; then both players must press the triangle button to start the game. The screen will automatically split into two parts. You'll just need to check which screen your avatar is on to start playing.

How to play Fortnite on a split screen with Xbox?
The process is practically identical to that of the Playstation.
- Step 1: You absolutely need 2 controllers and 2 accounts; guest accounts do not work, so you need an Xbox account with an email address and password.
- Step 2: On Xbox, as on PlayStation, split-screen for Fortnite only works in two modes: Duos (including Arenas and Duos) and Squads. The second player will only appear if you are in the lobby. You must select Battle Royale and one of the two modes.
- Step 3: Once the lobby is set up, turn on the second controller and link it to your Xbox account.
- At the bottom of the screen, you'll see an option prompting you to press and hold the A button (P2, connect, hold). This will take you to an account selection screen. Choose the correct one if you haven't already. You'll also have the opportunity to create your account at this stage.
Please note that sometimes the option displayed at the bottom of the screen can be a little temperamental, and you may sometimes have to exit and re-enter Duo or Sections for it to appear.
- Step 4: That's it, you're done! That's all you need to play Fortnite in split-screen
on the Xbox! That was pretty easy, wasn't it? If you have an Xbox Series X or S, you're in luck, split-screen works at 60 frames per second.
Limited split-screen on Xbox : just like on PS4, it is impossible to play in Creative mode, Save the World, Single Player or limited-time games.
It is also worth noting that Fortnite treats player 1 as the session leader, therefore no menu is accessible to player 2. If one of the two players disconnects or quits the game, the other player will be forced to quit as well.
