Three major companies are currently working together to produce the largest foldable laptop on the market. Users will be able to switch from a tablet to a laptop if they want to work or would like to use a keyboard. The PC can quickly transform back into a tablet if the user wants to view, among other things, Fullscreen videos by unfolding the screen. Let’s take a look at this futuristic project.
What does this project consist of?
Intel is working together with Samsung and Microsoft to realize the laptop of the future that can transform into a tablet. The prototype has already been shown at CES 2020 by Intel. The project consists of producing a tablet whose screen can fold to transform into a notebook. In this case, the lower part of the screen will have a virtual keyboard. The user can also connect a physical keyboard via a Bluetooth connection.
During the last CES (Consumer Electronic Show) which took place in Las Vegas last January 2020, Intel presented its prototype which it named Horseshoe Bend . It is one of Intel's most innovative projects. Intel will produce the processors for this new gadget. The processors will be Tiger Lake type. Samsung will produce the flexible screen. windows operating system which will drive everything. This operating system will be Windows 10X, an OS developed expressly for these hybrid laptops: tablet/notebook.
10 nanometer Tiger Lake processors . These are more efficient than 10th generation Intel core processors. Each foldable laptop PC will only be 7 mm thick and will only dissipate 9 Watts. As a result, the manufacturer does not need to install an active cooling system on these Horseshoe Bends.
When will this laptop hit the market?
Production of these futuristic laptops will begin in 2021 and they will be available on the market during 2022. The concept is similar to that of flexible screen smartphones such as Samsung's Galaxy Fold. Except that in our case, the 17-inch tablet will transform into a 13-inch laptop PC .
Lenovo already presented its foldable laptop PC called ThinkPad X1 in May last year. The latter is equipped with a smaller screen: 13 inches in Fullscreen (unfolded screen). It was a fruit of partnership between Lenovo, LG, Intel and Microsoft. Thus, Intel's Horseshoe Bend foldable laptop project is a logical continuation of its previous projects and its realization will not be a difficult bet to meet.
