Intel has just announced that the company's Hades Canyon NUC Mini-PCs debuted 3 years ago leveraging the 8th Gen Kaby Lake-G processor and AMD's Vega family GPUs.
The configurations of these mini-PCs
These are mini-PCs measuring 22.1 cm x 14.9 cm x 3.9 cm. The NUC8i7HNK uses a 3.1-4.1 GHz quad-core Core i7-8705G with 8 MB cache and Radeon RX Vega M GL graphics. As for the NUC8i7HVK , it is equipped with a quadcore Core i7-8809G clocked at 3.1 to 4.2 GHz with 8 MB cache and a Radeon RX Vega M GH graphics circuit. The latter is the more efficient of the two. The NUCs have 2 RAM slots capped at 32 GB and can benefit from 2 disks: 1 SSD and 1 SATA 3.0 PCIe.
On the connector side, we find 6 USB 3.0 Type-A, 3 USB Type-C, 4 video outputs including 2 HDMI and 2 miniDisplayPort. Each PC is equipped with 2 Gigabit network cards, 802.11AC WiFi and a Bluetooth 4.2 module. A headphone jack and a microphone jack are present as well as a 2nd S/PDIF Optical audio output. It is also equipped with an SDXC card reader.
The project uniting Intel and AMD
Hades Canyon , which succeeded Skull Canyon NUC6i7KYK, is marked by the fact that an NUC arrived for the first time with a processor that was not entirely manufactured by Intel. Kaby Lake-G is one of the few projects where two rivals in the IT field have joined forces to make a single product. Based on Kaby Lake microarchitecture , NUCs adopt AMD graphics .
Intel had already withdrawn its Kaby Lake-G processors from the market last October. However, the NUC8i7HNK and NUC8i7HVK will not suddenly disappear from the market. Intel has promised that they will still be available until November 27. The last shipments will leave on January 29, 2021. These mini PCs are sold at €1,138.
