In the coming days, Intel and AMD are expected to launch their latest server processors on the market. The launches, which according to experts will take place at the same time, suggest a rather extraordinary event. We invite you right away to discover this significant event that is coming!
A possible increase in the price of SSDs is on the horizon
According to recent analyzes by Taiwanese research firm TrendForce, a specialist in the field of memory, the price of enterprise SSDs could increase. This increase in NVMe PCI 4.0 and 5.0 should benefit from a rate of 15% in the coming months.
All of this will take place just after the latest server processors from Intel and AMD actually launch. The surprising thing in this story remains the fact that the launch will take place at the same time.
Obviously, it is very rare to see the release of two processors at the same time. Intel will ship the Ice Lake generation of all its Xeon processors . AMD, meanwhile, will launch its Epyc 7003 Milan chips . Therefore, the increase in SSD prices is well justified.
Moreover, we could see the release of several server models during the quarter by brands such as HPE, Dell Technology and Lenovo.
The quality of interfaces could boost future sales
On the other hand, the Taiwanese research firm expects a decrease in demand for servers towards the end of the year. It should be noted that even corporate SSDs will not be spared.
If we should, however, take a step back, we see that the increase in the price of servers generally occurs over several months. It is precisely for this reason that we believe that the sales bubble will burst during the fourth quarter of the year.
Furthermore, TrendForce claims that by 2022, Intel and AMD will release processors that can support a range of important things. CI Express 5.0 and the CXL (Computer Express Link) interface were cited.
These high-speed interconnections make it simple to move data instantly. Indeed, due to the immense size of the data, the bottleneck occurs at the data movement level and not at the processing level.
Intel and AMD: which of the two brands will gain the upper hand?
Just a few weeks ago, Intel unveiled its next generation of unique server processors. These were obviously the Xeon Ice Lakes with a finesse of 10 nm. The previous generation had 14 nm engraving.
AMD, for its part, had launched the Epyc which until then offered a significant reduction in the prices of the various servers. You can thus benefit from servers that are 30% less expensive than those from Intel and above all with similar characteristics.
Intel has dominated the server market for over a decade. However, the arrival of AMD has disintegrated its market shares. If Intel is banking on its notoriety in the field, AMD will base itself on the performance and quality/price ratio of its processors.
In your opinion, which of the two brands will take over after the launch of their latest server processors? Tell us in the comments!
