SanDisk Extreme and Extreme Pro V2, fast external SSDs!

SSD for photographers

SanDisk announces two new versions of its Extreme and Extreme Pro portable SSDs, guaranteeing even faster transfer speeds! Let's take a closer look at these two external SSDs.

SSD model configuration

The Extreme and Extreme Pro SSDs feature high-speed USB 3.2 and USB 3.2 Gen2 2x2 Type-C ports, respectively, and NVMe chips. This allows them to achieve even faster speeds. Western Digital, the parent company of SanDisk, is launching these products to meet, among other things, the daily needs of professional photographers and videographers who want quick access to their data, even on the go.

The Extreme SSD will be available in three capacities: 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB, with a 5-year manufacturer's warranty. The combination of a USB 3.2 interface and NVMe technology guarantees read/write speeds of up to 1050MB/s. This performance is achieved using a Western Digital SN500 series SSD and an ASMedia USB bridge. The Extreme Pro version features a WD Black SN730E SSD with 96-layer BiCS 4 memory and custom firmware. With its USB 3.2 Gen2 2x2 Type-C interface, this drive achieves read and write speeds of 2000MB/s, twice as fast as its predecessors. As for the dimensions, the Extreme version measures 8.95 mm x 52.42 mm x 100.54 mm while the Extreme Pro has a measurement of 110.26 mm x 57.34 mm x 10.22 mm.

The advantages of Sandisk's new SSDs!

The external drive features a silicone casing that can withstand drops of up to 2 meters. It is water-resistant to IP55 standards. SanDisk has implemented AES-256 hardware encryption, password protection, and compatibility with tablets and smartphones equipped with a USB-C interface.

For the Pro version, the chassis is made of forged aluminum with a silicone casing for improved heat dissipation. The other features already mentioned for the Extreme version remain valid for this Pro version. SanDisk offers only two capacities for the Pro model: 1TB and 2TB.

The SanDisk Extreme Portable 500GB SSD is on the market for $139.99, while the 1TB model costs $239.99. A 2TB model will also be available, but only for the Christmas holidays. The Extreme Pro model is available in a 2TB capacity for $499.99. The 1TB model will be released around Christmas.
