Configuring SSD Models
The Extreme and Extreme Pro SSDs feature a high-speed USB 3.2 and USB 3.2 Gen2 2x2 Type C port and NVMe chips, respectively. This is what allows them to reach even higher speeds. Western Digital, the parent company of SanDisk, is launching these products on the market to meet, among other things, the daily needs of professional photographers and videographers who want to quickly access their data even on the move.
The Extreme SSD will be available in 3 capacities: 500 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB with a 5-year manufacturer's warranty. The combination of USB 3.2 interface and NVMe technology guarantees a read/write speed of up to 1050 MB/s. This performance is obtained by using a Western Digital SSD from the SN500 family and an ASMedia USB bridge. For the Extreme Pro version, the drive is made up of a WD Black SN730E SSD with 96-layer BiCS 4 memory and ad hoc firmware. With USB 3.2 Gen2 2×2 Type C interface, this drive achieves read and write speeds of 2000MB/s. This is 2 times faster compared to its predecessors. As for the dimensions, the Extreme version measures 8.95mm x 52.42mm x 100.54mm while the Extreme Pro has a measurement of 110.26mm x 57.34mm x 10.22mm.

The external drive has a case with a silicone shell that can withstand drops of 2 meters. It is water resistant to the IP55 standard. SanDisk has implemented AES-256 hardware data encryption, password protection and a system that ensures compatibility with tablets or smartphones equipped with a USB-C interface.
For the Pro version, the chassis is made of forged aluminum, with a silicone shell, to ensure better heat dissipation. The other features already mentioned for the Extreme remain valid for this Pro version. SanDisk only offers two capacities for the Pro type: 1 and 2 TB.
The SanDisk Extreme Portable 500GB SSD is on the market for $139.99, while the 1TB model costs $239.99. A 2TB model will also arrive, but only for the Christmas holidays. The Extreme Pro model is available in a 2TB capacity for a price of $499.99. The 1TB model will be released around Christmas.
