DataTraveler Duo, the new USB key from Kingston

Kingston, the leader in the field of digital storage: SD card, USB key etc. has just released its DataTraveler Duo. It is a USB key that has 2 USB connectors: 1 USB type A and 1 USB type C. We will see in detail the characteristics of this new key.

Why provide a key supporting USB-C?

USB Type C is the universal standard for USB connectors. This Type C was launched in 2014 and is intended to simplify the USB standard. This will be the only USB (Universal Serial Bus) connection format in the future. USB type C has the advantage of being reversible (can be plugged in both directions). Thus, the Kingston DataTraveler Duo will be compatible with modern devices. Users will be able to store their data in the USB key and then use it directly on a PC via the USB-A port or on a mobile device equipped with USB-C connectivity. It is indeed to meet the growing needs of users who use more and more mobile devices that this product was created according to Carissa Blegen, Kingston Flash Product Manager.

The interface allows data to be transferred at 100 MB per second because the key complies with USB 3.2 Gen 1 standards. The key weighs 10 g and works in the range temperature 0°C to 60°C. Kingston offers a 5-year warranty for this DataTraveler Duo USB drive.

This key joins the Kingston DUO USB key family. We will cite the DataTraveler microDuo 3C (DTDUO3C) and the DataTraveler microDuo 3.0 G2 (DTDUO3G2). The latter has 2 USB ports including 1 USB-A and 1 micro USB port. It is under a 3-year warranty from the manufacturer Kingston. The reading speed on this key can reach 80 MB/s. So a little less than the new DataTraveler Duo key. The DataTraveler microDuo 3.0 G2 key weighs 17 g and measures 26.9 mm x 14.4 mm x 5.4 mm. This key, in the Kingston Duo Key range, can have a capacity of 128 GB and supports OTG (On-The-Go) functionalities.
