Kingston's new USB flash drive, DataTraveler Duo

Kingston, the leader in digital storage solutions such as SD cards and USB drives, has just released its DataTraveler Duo. This USB drive features two USB connectors: one USB Type-A and one USB Type-C. We'll take a closer look at the features of this new drive.

Why provide a USB-C compatible key?

USB Type-C is the universal standard for USB connectors. Launched in 2014, Type-C is designed to simplify the USB standard. It will be the sole USB (Universal Serial Bus) connector format in the future. USB Type-C has the advantage of being reversible (it can be plugged in either way). Therefore, Kingston's DataTraveler Duo will be compatible with modern devices. Users will be able to store their data on the USB drive and then access it directly on a PC via the USB-A port or on a mobile device with a USB-C connector. According to Carissa Blegen, Kingston Flash Product Manager, this product was created to meet the growing needs of users who increasingly rely on mobile devices.

Features of the DataTraveler Duo

This new Kingston flash drive features two USB connectors: one USB-A and one USB-C . It measures 64 mm x 21.2 mm x 10.4 mm when closed and has two sliding caps. These caps protect the connectors when not in use. The flash drive is available in two capacities: 32 GB and 64 GB. The interface allows for data transfer speeds of 100 MB/s because the drive is USB 3.2 Gen 1 compliant. The drive weighs 10 g and operates within a temperature range of 0°C to 60°C. Kingston offers a 5-year warranty for this DataTraveler Duo flash drive.

USB

This flash drive joins Kingston's Duo USB drive family. Other models include the DataTraveler microDuo 3C (DTDUO3C) and the DataTraveler microDuo 3.0 G2 (DTDUO3G2). The latter features two USB ports: one USB-A and one micro USB. It comes with a 3-year warranty from Kingston. Read speeds on this drive can reach up to 80 MB/s, slightly less than the new DataTraveler Duo. The DataTraveler microDuo 3.0 G2 weighs 17 g and measures 26.9 mm x 14.4 mm x 5.4 mm. This drive, part of Kingston's Duo range, offers a capacity of up to 128 GB and supports OTG (On-The-Go) functionality.

Your new mobile devices are equipped with USB-C ports. Therefore, if you want to expand their storage capacity or move your data to your PC, for example, the new Kingston DataTraveler Duo USB flash drive is perfect for you.
