Logitech G603 Light Speed: A gaming mouse with record-breaking battery life

The Swiss company Logitech is renowned for providing high-quality peripherals. In this article, we'll test and review one of the best wireless gaming mice : the Logitech G603 Lightspeed . The G603 is available online, notably on Amazon, for €34.29. With such a competitive price, how does it perform?

Introducing the Logitech G603 Lightspeed mouse

Let's begin our review with the usual unboxing. In the package, we have the mouse, two AA batteries, the Lightspeed receiver, an extension cable for the receiver, a user manual, and warranty and certification information. The Logitech G603 Lightspeed mouse measures 43 x 68 x 124 millimeters and weighs 90 grams. It's a black and gray wireless optical mouse with a silver Logitech logo on top. It features Lightspeed technology , a stable and fast technology developed by Logitech. You can connect it to your computer via Lightspeed connectivity or Bluetooth . This mouse is compatible with various platforms such as windows , macOS, Android, etc. The G603 resembles the G403 Prodigy Wireless and G703 , but it uses two AA batteries instead of a rechargeable one. This makes the G603 less expensive and more accessible. At first glance, we have nothing to criticize about the finish of the G603. It is well-finished in every detail.

The mouse features six programmable buttons. A button located above the scroll wheel allows you to change the sensitivity on the fly. You can directly choose from five sensitivity levels here. If you want to program and save macros, you can configure them using Logitech's Gaming Assistant . This mouse does not have backlighting, but it does incorporate a HERO Gamer sensor, known for its performance of up to 10 times greater precision.

In terms of clicks, the buttons offer crisp, clean clicks. The quality of the Omron D2FC-F-7N chips used is undeniable. Logitech has promised over 20 million per button. The scroll wheel allows for smooth scrolling. However, it doesn't have a fast scrolling mode with automatic free-spinning or horizontal scrolling. If you want a mouse with a fast scrolling system that automatically free-spins, you can opt for the Logitech MX Master 3 Advanced. This mouse features SmartShift, a system that detects when you want to switch to fast scrolling. In this mode, you can scroll at over 1000 lines per second. This is very useful if you're working with multi-page documents or spreadsheets with thousands of lines. The G603 Lightspeed mouse also offers good performance and is equipped with a 32-bit ARM microprocessor. It comes with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty.

Advanced settings for the Logitech G603 Lightspeed mouse

Lightspeed technology was developed by the Swiss company Logitech to eliminate all the problems associated with wireless connectivity. The Lightspeed connection is thus as stable as a wired connection. Logitech engineers meticulously studied every aspect, from the electrical circuits and the antenna to the firmware. Nothing was left to chance in order to eliminate any latency.

The HERO (High Efficiency Rated Optical) gaming sensor delivers precision without smoothing, acceleration, or filtering, ranging from 200 to 12,000 DPI . It offers performance 10 times greater than previous generation mouse sensors (PMW3366). Hero technology is thus becoming the new standard in tracking technology, providing a revolutionary performance-to-power ratio in the world of wireless technology. This sensor incorporates an intelligent power power supply that adjusts the image refresh rate according to mouse movements, thus optimizing power consumption. The Hero sensor remains precise and responsive even with images scrolling at over 400 FPS.

The Logitech G603 mouse offers advanced power supply management depending on mouse usage. On the underside of the mouse, you'll find a switch to toggle the power supply mode from Low (Lo) to High (Hi). In High mode, the G603 boasts a 1ms report rate and over 500 hours of battery life. It's worth noting that the G603 offers twice the battery life of previous generation mice. In High mode, the mouse prioritizes performance and is recommended for gaming sessions. When you're not gaming, you can switch to Low mode for even greater battery life. In Low mode, the report rate is 8ms with up to 18 months of battery life. Low mode is suitable for office use with a 125Hz polling rate.

To replace the AA batteries, simply lift the central cover under which the two batteries are housed. The cover is magnetic and therefore easy to detach. We were initially concerned about the stability of this magnetic cover, but after hours of testing, we encountered no problems.

With the Gaming Assistant , you can customize buttons and assign macros. You can also modify settings saved in the mouse's internal memory. The software is very intuitive and easy to use. With it, you can assign actions to additional mouse buttons. This offers a significant advantage during gaming sessions, as you can configure your essential movements with a single click: building, crouching, charging, healing, etc. This software also provides a heat map, showing you which buttons you use most often.

In terms of design, with its curved shape, the mouse fits perfectly in the palm of the hand. We do slightly regret the absence of non-slip material on the sides. The hand tends to slip a little on the G603, especially when lifting the mouse. This isn't too bothersome, but if you want a mouse with a more secure grip, you could opt for the Logitech G403 or G703 . The G603 glides smoothly on its two long PTFE feet. The manufacturer claims a battery life of approximately 250 km.

The G603 Lightspeed mouse was introduced by Logitech alongside the G613 keyboard , which also offers good gaming performance. You can therefore use this keyboard or opt for others such as the Logitech G915 Gaming Keyboard or the Logitech G513 Carbon Lightsync with backlighting. If you want to try using a vertical mouse, the Logitech MX Vertical Wireless will do the trick. Looking for a keyboard with an integrated mouse? We recommend the Logitech K400 Plus keyboard .
