NVIDIA RTX 3090 VS RTX 2080 Ti under 3DMark

During the presentation of the NVIDIA RTX 3090 , NVIDIA already showcased its performance based on internal testing. However, we need further test results from a third party to confirm or refute these claims. Will this new card outperform the RTX 2080 Ti , renowned for its gaming performance? We'll see how it performs using the 3DMark benchmark software.

Why test with 3DMark?

3DMark is a well-known benchmarking software. It's primarily used to test graphics cards using DirectX technology. It provides a score to determine graphics rendering performance. When comparing combined scores in 3DMark, the machine's processor must also be considered. In this case, the tests should be performed on the same machine (or at least with an identical processor). Furthermore, 3DMark is regularly updated to ensure improved performance testing.

RTX 3090 graphics card configurations

This is an Ampere-optimized graphics card. Its performance is pushed to the extreme thanks to AI and DLSS (Deep Learning) sampling. This allows for optimized ray tracing and delivers excellent graphics rendering. The card features 10,496 CUDA cores and 24 GB of GDDR6X memory . The boost clock speed is 1.70 GHz. It allows for 8K resolution at 60 FPS. The card occupies three slots and consumes 350 watts of power. It costs €1,550 on NVIDIA's website.

The performance of the NVIDIA RTX 3090 graphics card under 3DMark

We'll now look at the performance test results for this card using two games. The processor used was an Intel Core i9-7980XE. We'll choose Port Royal and Time Spy Extreme. Here are the scores obtained by the NVIDIA RTX 3090: For Port Royal, it achieved 24,272 points; it scored 16,890 in Time Spy Extreme. These scores are significantly higher than those obtained by the RTX 2080 Ti. Indeed, the previous generation scored 21,033 on Port Royal and 16,248 on Time Spy Extreme. These results are available on the 3DMark website. Other games were tested, and the new generation of NVIDIA cards shows good performance compared to the previous generation RTX 2080 Ti. We can therefore confirm that the RTX 3090 is much better.
