After the presentation of a prototype in May 2019 and detailed specifications at CES 2020 Las Vegas earlier this year, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold is finally available for pre-order. The device will cost $2499!
Characteristics of the new laptop from Lenovo
This device runs Windows 10 Professional. It features a foldable screen with OLED display technology. The screen is in 4:3 format and can be folded in half to have 2 screens of 9.6 inches each. The device runs on an 11th generation Intel Core i5 Lakefield processor.
It is equipped with 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM at 4267 MHz and 1 TB PCIe NVMe SSD storage. 5G is optional, but Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 are present. In terms of autonomy, this little gadget has an autonomy of 11 hours outside the mains socket. This Lenovo laptop can charge via a USB-C port with a 65 Watt charger.
Fold accessories and its scalability
Although Lenovo has not announced a specific launch date, the pre-order page indicates the possibility of ordering in 4 to 5 weeks. Additional accessories are also available for pre-order such as the Lenovo Mod Pen for note-taking, the Mini Fold Bluetooth Keyboard, for laptop-style typing, and an easel stand so you can use it in landscape or portrait mode.
Lenovo doesn't consider the X1 Fold a regular laptop. In a blog article, Jerry Paradise, Vice President of Commercial Management at Lenovo, wrote that the device is a “chameleon of personal computing devices”. But we can say that the ThinkPad X1 Fold is a PC since it runs Windows 10 Professional. Lenovo apparently always intended to launch the device with Windows 10X. But since Microsoft seems to have changed priority on the launch of Windows 10X, we do not know when this version will be released. But Lenovo has pulled out all the stops to make Windows 10 Pro work on its foldable-screen machines.
A non-foldable screen alternative
Lenovo is also launching the ThinkPad X1 Nano , which is an ultra-thin laptop for those who don't really need a foldable screen. It weighs less than 1kg and measures 1.4 cm. The latter also runs on an 11th generation Intel Core i7 processor and is equipped with 16 GB of LPDDR4X RAM.
This laptop can support up to 1TB SSD for storage. The X1 Nano can last 17 hours without a power outlet. The latest generation network connectivity is also present such as Wi-Fi 6 or Bluetooth 5. This machine is equipped with a fingerprint sensor and an infrared camera. It is 5G compatible for those who are connected to the latest generation communication technology. This alternative machine will be on sale from the 4th quarter of 2020 for a price of $1,599.
