Hades Canyon NUC product line is being discontinued. The mini-PCs debuted three years ago, leveraging the 8th generation Kaby Lake-G processor and AMD Vega family GPUs.
The configurations of these mini-PCs
These are mini-PCs measuring 22.1 cm x 14.9 cm x 3.9 cm. The NUC8i7HNK uses a quad-core Core i7-8705G processor clocked at 3.1 to 4.1 GHz with 8 MB of cache and a Radeon RX Vega M GL graphics card. The NUC8i7HVK , on the other hand, is equipped with a quad-core Core i7-8809G processor clocked at 3.1 to 4.2 GHz with 8 MB of cache and a Radeon RX Vega M GH graphics card. The latter is the more powerful of the two. Both NUCs have two RAM slots, each with a maximum capacity of 32 GB, and can accommodate two drives: one SSD and one SATA 3.0 PCIe drive.
Connectivity options include six USB 3.0 Type-A ports, three USB Type-C ports, and four video outputs, two of which are HDMI and two miniDisplayPort. Each PC features two Gigabit network cards, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.2. A headphone jack and microphone jack are also included, along with a second optical S/PDIF audio output. An SDXC card reader is also provided.
The project uniting Intel and AMD
Hades Canyon , successor to Skull Canyon NUC6i7KYK, is notable for being the first NUC to feature a processor not entirely manufactured by Intel. Kaby Lake-G is one of the rare projects where two rivals in the computing industry joined forces to produce a single product. Based on the Kaby Lake microarchitecture , the NUCs utilize AMD graphics .
Intel had already withdrawn its Kaby Lake-G processors from the market last October. However, the NUC8i7HNK and NUC8i7HVK will not disappear from the market immediately. Intel has promised that they will remain available until November 27th. The last shipments will leave on January 29th, 2021. These mini PCs are sold for €1,138.
