Brave unveils its new video conferencing tool, Brave Talk!

You can now make video calls with your loved ones using Brave Talk . This browser-based video conferencing feature is powered by the open-source Jitsi . If you value your privacy, this new tool from Brave Software is definitely for you!

Brave Talk: the new feature of the Brave browser

    the Brave browser

Since its initial release on January 20, 2016, Brave has been used by over 36 million people for browsing. This is no accident, as the browser has continuously improved its features and expanded its services.

The most recent addition? A video conferencing feature , in the form of video calls and aptly named Brave Talk . Once again, and as always, the browser designed by Brendan Eich (the inventor of JavaScript) bases the tool on privacy .

After announcing its intention to launch such a tool more than a year ago, the publisher has officially deployed it in its latest version of the browser . Although the feature was originally going to be called Brave Together, the publisher ultimately chose to call it Brave Talk.

Furthermore, for the development of Brave Talk, the developer used the Jitsi Meet application. For your information, Jitsi Meet is an open-source solution that supports end-to-end encrypted calls.

The feature is integrated directly into the browser, and no additional applications or downloads are required. To use this tool, simply open your desktop browser (Brave) and click the small camera icon in the new tab to access the correct page.

You can also access it by clicking directly on this link: https://talk.brave.com/. Note that to make a call, you must initiate the process directly from Brave, even though it is possible to join from other browsers.

Brave Talk is available in a free version and a premium version

We would like to inform you that Brave Talk offers two different plans.

    • The first, free version allows for one-on-one calls with an unlimited number and duration (which isn't possible with Zoom, for example, regarding call length). However, be aware that this version is limited overall, and to use it, you must activate the browser's Brave Rewards virtual currency. Furthermore, this version only allows calls between two users.
    • As for the second, it is Brave Talk Premium, which costs $7 per month , and which allows you to record calls, mute certain participants or even launch group calls… By opting for this version, Brave Talk is no longer limited and pre-includes all the features provided natively by Jitsi Meet.

Finally, in the coming weeks, the free version of BraveTalk should also be available for all Android and iOS users. Others can already enjoy it!
